Oh the Fun of a Toddler , a Baby and a Wedding

Oh man , i'm sooo bad at trying to keep up with this lol , but really can ya blame me ? Now that I'm home alone for seven weeks I guess I SHOULD be able to keep this darn thing updated lol. So , if ya haven't guessed already Josh is now in moncton doing his fourth block for his electrical liscence. I really thought these stupid blocks would never end , it's a complete interuption in our finances when we were already behind a bit. Alas, this is the last time he'll be going so i guess we'll get through it.

Summer is now daytime potty trained (hooray !), and she puts a pullup on during nap time and bed time. All it took was two weeks straight at home in panties , a few accidents, and alot of laundry but she finally gets it. Addison has been teething , so i've been trying different techniques to help with the pain , when lo and behold the tried and true tylenol is the only thing that seems to help any . I bought the very expensive Camilia thinking if it helped at all it would be worth it and used the max dose of 3 mls in 45 mins with no difference in pain (that I observed anyway). She's not old enough to hold anything in her mouth to chew on and I haven't heard any good things about baby orajel, so tylenol has been my only saviour.

and Once again I have a dilema that i'd be very grateful to you (that means especially you , cindy !) to give me any ideas on .....so here's the story .... Breastfeeding addison is going extremely well , she's four months this week and I always knew I would nurse her exclusively till six months but ..now that it's going sooo well I would really not mind continuing to nurse till a year old (or as long as it continues to go well ) . My problem is with the wedding (she'll be 8 months old then), I really want to be able to enjoy the wedding & dance and have a few drinks without feeling guilty , also we'll be going on honeymoon for a week , now I know I could attempt to pump enough milk for a week's worth and give that to her then..... but then during the honeymoon i'd have to pump every 3-4hours just so I wouldn't leak everywhere. I even thought if I didn't get enough milk pumped I could just give her a bit of formula then continue to breastfeed when I got back , but I would still have to pump the whole time to keep my milk supply up ...ahhhh I feel like i'm being so selfish but is it selfish to want to enjoy your wedding and dance ?? HELP!!!

Why dont you start pumping now, you can freeze the stuff FOR EVER! When you are away, you likely will have to do the ol' pump and dump if you're boozin' or just wait a few hours till the liquor is out of you system, which wont work if youre drinkin a whole lot. I dont think youre being selfish at all! This is a one time deal, and you are already giving your baby a huge gift by trying it and making it this far! Kudos to you for that.

I was pumping full time until now and you dont have to pump every 3 or 4 hours to keep your milk up I was doing that at first and its crazy getting up in the night to pump. 2 or 3 times a day pump both breast and work your milk up so your pumping 4 to 6 oz from each that is enough to feed her. It takes 3 to 4 days for your body to get use to producing more milk and if your trying to produce more drink more water and milk. Breastmilk stays good in a deep freezer for 6 months a fridge freezer for 3 months and the fridge for 7 days. Enjoy the wedding, dance and honeymoon.

First off...AWESOME that things are going so well that you're wanting to continue past a year! That's fantastic! It's kind of hard to judge what she's going to be like when she's 8 months old...but by that time she'll be eating food too so she probably won't be nursing as often as she is now. You are "allowed" to drink when you're breastfeeding. I wouldn't be getting loaded if I were you, but a couple of drinks is not going to hurt at all. The general "rule" is 1 drink per 2hr. So it pretty much takes about 2hr for the alcohol to leave your breastmilk but at 8 months old she'll probably be going about 4 + hr between feeds so if you can time it right, you should be ok!

You are NOT being selfish in ANY way to want to enjoy your wedding! My guess is that you're probably going to have to watch yourself during the reception but she'll probably sleep through the dance and the rest of the night right? So you can probably have as many drinks as you want at that point in time and I'd just have some milk on hand for whoever is looking after the girls that night.

As for the honeymoon, I would try and build up a freezer stash now and then while you're away you might not have to pump nearly as much as you think. Boobs are pretty resilient and pretty smart! You'll find that soon you won't be producing as much during her "off times" and you won't feel as full in the mornings after she's slept all night. You might be able to get away with only having to pump one or two times a day (that's how it was with me when I was in the hospital anyway) and then when you get back home, your supply should still be ok and if not, Addison will help get you back on track!

Don't worry about it hun! She will be fine...you just need to prepare! Trust me, if Madison can survive the way she has and she won't even LOOK at a bottle...Addison will be just fine!

You are definately not being selfish. You have to think about what is best for all of you, and sometimes that means giving yourself a break by putting your needs above that of the baby's.

Don't feel pressured to stay sober and nurse if that is not what you want to do. You can certainly have a few drinks and still nurse in the morning. If she is still nursing through the night though, you may need to give her some pumped milk.

Actually giving her some breastmilk in a bottle is probably a good idea once in awhile just so she is used to it. I went several months without giving my breastfed daughter anything other than the breast and now that I am trying to get her to take something else (because I am going back to work soon), she wont. All she wants is the breast....and you dont want to be stuck in that situation.- Jodi

thanks for your comments everyone , i'm feeling better about it already . and She already sleeps through the night without feeding so that should be okay. i'll just have to make about enough for three to four feedings a day with her regular food she'll be eating . So i'm off to find a new pump (i forgot to mention that mines broke lol) . Hopefully i'll just have to pump in the morning and before bed on the honeymoon to keep up . i'm also going to attempt to get her to take the sippy cup instead of a bottle just so i can totally skip bottle usage all together lol

That's what I did with Madi when I was in the hospital. I just had Jeff give it to her in a sippy cup. I don't even really plan to pump when I'm at work though unless I'm really uncomfortable. She's pretty good at adjusting to eating when I'm around and that's it. Maybe Addison will be the same way.

Blessed Thistle, Mother's Milk Tea (which you can get from Aura foods), Brewer's yeast, and Fenugreek (but it makes you smell like maple syrup). I have a great cookie recipe too...

Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies

Ingredients :

* 1 cup butter or marg
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal*
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous)

Directions:

Preheat oven at 375 degrees F. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes. Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended. Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.

Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

Serves: 6 dozen cookies

Preparation time: 15 minutes
